Strawberry Panic! Episode 01

March 31, 2007

Summary
Nagisa Aoi, a first year high school student, is sent to the prestigious Astraea Dormitory after her parents transferred abroad. There, the dormitory is occupied by students of three well-known all girls’ schools: Le Rim Girls School, St. Spica’s Academy, and St. Miatre Girls Academy. On her first day, Nagisa has an unexpected encounter with Shizuma Hanazano, or also named as Etoile, who is the representative of all three schools and is well loved by everyone. The surprise meeting proves interesting as Hanazano looks to have taken a liking to Nagisa.

Review
I’ve actually been receiving a lot of recommendations from my friends regarding this particular anime, so I decided to finally watch it and see for myself how good it is. At first glance, it does prove to be very, very pleasing to the eye and the audio isn’t bad as well.

But still, it’s a typical shoujo-ai in an all girls’ academy, but it is entertaining to watch. The main heroine is not as simpering, although her love interest is still cold, popular, and mysterious. The characters are very flat, sadly, but the art is immensely pretty and the story’s progression isn’t too bad. Also, I really like the take they did with the ED. Veeerry pretty.

All in all, I’d give it an 8/10. The first episode didn’t bore me so much, unlike Maria-sama ga Miteru, so I think that’s a good sign.

Ooooooh!

Reminiscing… and wanting a DS.

January 9, 2007

I was looking at the games for the Nintendo DS (lite) and found that most are pretty cool and that if ever money grew on the tree in our backyard (or our front yard, but then people will steal it!), I’d definitely grab the chance. But since that definitely is not going to happen anytime soon, I’ll have to opt for daydreaming.

The DS, more so the lite, here in the Philippines is overpriced. I was thinking, maybe I could get my aunt to buy me one from the States. I mean, come on, who doesn’t want a DS? Especially if it comes in pink?

My brother, bored and depressed, is thinking of going out to buy the whole Rurouni Kenshin DVD set. And that’s waaaay cool, so I hope that he’ll actually go and get it. RK was, I think, the first anime that I got really obsessed with. No, wait. I think it may have been Yu Yu Hakusho. Those were the days! How old was I when I watched YYH anyway? Five?

Speaking of those days, I am, sadly, not one of the girls who watched Sailor Moon when growing up. It aired here around the time I was watching YYH (which was then dubbed as Ghost Fighters), but I never got around to watching it. I did fancy it, though, especially Sailor Moon herself.

It kind of bothers me a little that there was actually shoujo ai in that anime. I mean, how old was their audience target?

Anyway! The main purpose of this entry is that I want a DS and not even security guards, locks, and glass can stop me!!!
